I, John, your brother and fellow partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and perseverance which are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. (Revelation 1:9)

John was on the island of “Patmos” when he saw visions out of heaven and received revelations from God. “Patmos” means “my killing” in Greek.

This can be said as the central theme for the entire book of Revelation. God will use His way of “my killing” to terminate and get rid of everything that comes from the old life of Adam so that the life of the Lord could reign in His saints.

Like the book of Daniel, Revelation has been read by many as a prophetic book. These people are often on a “wild-goose chase,” hoping to uncover mysteries concerning the future.
