Why does the Lord so detest the deeds of those “neither cold nor hot”?

3/23 (What Is the Lukewarm Symptom?)

“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.” (Revelation 3:15-16)

Why does the Lord so detest the deeds of those “neither cold nor hot”, to a point that He wants to spit them out of His mouth?

We all know that when water is heated to its boiling point, vapor like someone’s “breath” is seen ascending up. Similarly when water is cooled to a point of becoming ice, white smoke like “breath” is also seen coming from the ice.

A man lives by the air he breathes. The Bible often calls this breath “spirit.”

Jesus goes right to the heart of the matter by saying: “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” (John 6:63)

Thus we see, the issue of “neither cold nor hot” hinges on this “breath,” our spirit. When it is invisible, it means our spirit has been paralyzed.

The danger of being lukewarm is similar to leaving a person in a very comfortable environment, like a frog being cooked in lukewarm water, it stays there enjoying this slow-warming bath with no jumping, no howling until it is too late. It does not even know how it dies!

Do you not see – that when we are stuck in this situation and the Lord spits us out of His mouth, He is actually full of grace and mercy to us?
