“… and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the book, will be rescued. Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt.” (Daniel 12:1b-2)
This passage corresponds to the following passage in Revelation 20:
“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:11-15)
What is noteworthy is the Hebrew word for “many” in the phrase “many of those who sleep… will awake” in Daniel – the word “many” in Hebrew derives from a verb which means “to cast together”. This meaning is of close similarity to the phrase “the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne… And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them.”
In other words, these “many” people are not just the majority of the dead, rather, they refer to all the dead people who will be “cast together” before the Great White Throne of God in order to be judged.
For this we know, within the tri-unity structure of the Bible, verses in different places are connected in meaning and do not contradict each other.
